I Rejected this Statement. It is contrary to American Democracy.
I was raised and mentored by two strong minded American women
from Whittier.
My mother and grandmother taught me to question things, challenge
things that need challenging, and change things that need changing. Unafraid.
Speak up! Defend the defenseless. Do
what’s right. Be critical. We are American born to be
free if we fight to keep it. My grandmother often told me that there’s a special
place in hell (purgatory) for those who do not take sides, who sit and watch
things happen and do nothings. “Mijo, she said, don’t sit and do nothing!” “Our family helped expelled the king of England
from this continent, expelled the rule of the King of Spain and executed Emperor
Maximillian of Mexico. We didn’t sit and
watch things happen, we did something.”
I stand against the autocratic idea Americans sit quiet and
do nothing. Don’t attempt to weaken our locally governed, democratically
elected school board.
